Policy Dimension 14
Agriculture stands as a pivotal sector in the Western Balkans, characterised by its rich tapestry of agricultural landscapes and traditions. Over time, the region has made strides in modernising and diversifying within its agricultural sectors to enhance productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness. Furthermore, alignment with European Union agricultural standards and policies serves as a crucial anchor for reforms in the context of EU accession, facilitating trade and access to EU markets. However, persistent challenges, including fragmented land ownership, insufficient infrastructure, restricted access to credit and markets, and susceptibility to climate change, remain hurdles to overcome.
