The six Western Balkan economies have long recognised the significance of the digital economy and society for development and EU convergence. With an annual increase in available fibre connections rising from 29% in 2021 to 33% in 2022, WB6 are focused on improving infrastructure, expanding e-government services, supporting SME digital transformation, and exploring new emerging technologies, thus highlighting the growing need for including environmentally sustainable practices in this transition.
